This past weekend, the Girls In Soccer Pilot Program was a resounding success, bringing together around 100 young female athletes from FYSA’s Region D. Organized by FYSA Region D East Commissioner, Melissa Alford, the event was designed to empower girls in soccer by focusing on a holistic approach to both their physical and mental well-being. With sessions on body health, mental health, and nutrition, the girls left with valuable insights that will aid them both on and off the field.
The event offered both indoor and outdoor components to elevate the learning expiernce for the participants. There were many guest coaches and speakers, all sharing their expertise and motivating the girls to strive for greatness. A highlight of the event was the appearance of a former player from Florida State University’s Womens Soccer Team, Kirsten Britts, who shared invaluable advice and inspiring words that resonated deeply with the young athletes.
The focus on mental health, led by expert speakers, complemented the sessions on physical health and nutrition, making sure that the girls were educated on the importance of balance, both mentally and physically, in sports. The turnout and enthusiasm throughout the event were remarkable, proving just how needed and appreciated these initiatives are.
Girls in Soccer organizer, Melissa Alford, beamed on the success of the pilot program stating, “This event was geared towards girls learning about more than just the game of soccer. The mental, physical, emotional and nutritional facts they learned throughout the day are things they will take on for the rest of their lives. The program was led by an all female staff, coaches and admin. I could not be more proud of this pilot program!”
With this incredible success, FYSA is excited to take the Girls In Soccer event to the next region in Florida, continuing to empower and inspire the next generation of female soccer players across the state.
